GRAHAM POTTER'S SWEDEN DEFEATS TUNISIA 5-1 IN WORLD CUP OPENER
Sweden opened their World Cup campaign with a 5-1 victory over Tunisia at the Estadio Monterrey on Sunday night, with Graham Potter overseeing a commanding performance from his side. Yasin Ayari scored twice for the Brighton midfielder, whilst Mattias Svanberg, Alexander Isak and Viktor Gyokeres also found the net. Potter reported sustaining an injury during the match, appearing with bleeding from his right ear and suggesting someone may have scratched or bitten him.
The result marked a significant turnaround for Sweden, whose qualifying campaign had been unsuccessful. Potter took charge late in the qualification process as the team looked to revive their fortunes. Sweden eventually secured a World Cup place through a Nations League play-off, defeating Ukraine and Poland to earn their spot at the tournament across the United States, Canada and Mexico.
Sweden face Japan and the Netherlands in Group F, with the two teams drawing 2-2 on Sunday. Potter expressed satisfaction with his players' performance, noting they maintained control throughout the match whilst acknowledging imperfections remained. He stated the team would focus on continuing to perform well in their remaining group fixtures.
