TRUMP CRITICISED PERRY’S MARRIAGE TO BRAND IN HISTORICAL POSTS
Donald Trump criticised Katy Perry’s marriage to Russell Brand in Twitter posts years before a jury convicted Brand of rape and sexual assault on Thursday. Trump questioned Perry’s decision to marry the British comedian in 2011 and directed further criticism at Brand in 2014. In one post, Trump called Brand a “major loser”. Brand responded by questioning whether Trump drank alcohol before writing his tweets.
Perry married Brand in 2010, and Trump posted his initial criticism the day before Brand filed for divorce. The couple legally divorced in 2012. Trump’s October 2014 comments followed Brand’s appearance on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon. Trump wrote: “Katy, what the hell were you thinking when you married loser Russell Brand. There is a guy who has got nothing going, a waste!” Trump also reposted a mock-up image depicting himself wrestling with Brand.
At Southwark Crown Court, the jury found Brand guilty of one count of rape and three sexual assaults following a four-week trial. Jurors acquitted him of two counts of rape and one charge of attempted indecent assault. The court heard evidence concerning women Brand encountered during his career in stand-up comedy, television, radio and Hollywood films. Mr Justice Bennathan ordered Brand to remain in custody until sentencing on Monday.
