MAN JUMPS FROM SECOND-FLOOR WINDOW TO ESCAPE LONDON FIRE
A man jumped from a second-floor window to escape a fire at a restaurant and flat on Seven Sisters Road in Finsbury Park, north London, on Bonfire Night. Emergency crews took him to hospital, where he received treatment for minor injuries. Firefighters evacuated eight people from the building. Ten fire engines and 70 firefighters attended the blaze.
Footage showed flames coming from the building’s top floor and roof, with smoke rising above the property. People gathered near the Shish Shack as firefighters directed water towards the flames. Witness Elle Hodgson described the heat: “You could feel the heat billowing off the blaze.” She said four hoses poured water onto the building from different angles while the flames appeared to grow. Hodgson estimated that around 100 people watched and said residents three doors away looked out of their windows.
Station Commander Adam Lawson urged people living nearby to take precautions, saying: “Local residents are advised to keep their windows and doors closed.” He also warned of very heavy traffic and asked motorists and pedestrians to avoid the area. Lawson said authorities had closed Seven Sisters Road between Holloway Road and Finsbury Park station. Firefighters continued tackling the blaze, and authorities had not established its cause at the time of the accounts.
