CELTIC BEAT BESIKTAS AT PARKHEAD IN EUROPA LEAGUE WIN
Celtic beat Besiktas at Parkhead in the Europa League, with substitutes Camilo Duran and Callum Osmand scoring after being brought on in the second half. Duran scored twice from the bench, while Osmand also found the net, in a match described as a five-goal thriller. Martin O'Neill made five changes to the starting line-up for the match, following Celtic's 2-0 defeat to Falkirk. Both Duran and Osmand had been left out of the starting eleven before coming on to change the game. The result gave Celtic their first win of this season's Europa League campaign.
Celtic had lost their first three matches in this season's Europa League, including a defeat by Celta Vigo at Parkhead in their previous home fixture in the competition. Celtic started the match with Johnstone in goal, alongside Carter-Vickers, Scales, Tierney and Forrest in the side. Besiktas lined up with Nubel in goal, alongside Murillo, Agbadou and Trossard. O'Neill had called on his players to respond after the defeat to Falkirk, and Duran and Osmand delivered when brought on from the substitutes' bench.
The win ended Celtic's winless run in the Europa League and gave the club a chance of qualifying from the competition, with further progress still required, according to the match report. The same evening brought a mixed outcome for Scottish clubs in European competition, as Hearts lost their fixture on the same night that Celtic won. Managers and pundits from both matches gave their reaction after the final whistle. Coverage of domestic Scottish football was due to resume over the following weekend.
