SANTA MONICA STUDIO DELAYS GOD OF WAR LAUFEY TO MAY 2027

THU 05 NOV 2026

Santa Monica Studio has delayed the release of God of War Laufey from mid-February 2027 to 20 May 2027. The developer announced the three-month postponement in a social media post on 4 November 2026. The studio said it would use the extra time "putting in the finishing touches and pushing the game to its fullest potential." The title had been expected to launch as part of a crowded early-2027 release schedule. Santa Monica Studio develops the God of War series for Sony's PlayStation platform.

God of War Laufey follows God of War (2018) and God of War: Ragnarok. The new instalment puts players in the role of Laufey, also known as Faye, the wife of series protagonist Kratos. The story takes players through Omnitime, described as a realm beyond the domain of the gods. The game had been set to be PlayStation's first major AAA release of 2027. Its revised date means it will no longer launch in the same window as Grand Theft Auto 6.

The delay places God of War Laufey among a run of major titles due in 2027. Stranger Than Heaven is scheduled for 14 January and Ananta for 15 January, followed by Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis on 12 February. Persona 4 Revival is due on 18 February, Fable on 23 February, and Wo Long 2: Wings of Ember on 4 March. Several other titles, including Alien Isolation 2, a remake of Resident Evil CODE: Veronica, and Lords of the Fallen 2, are expected in the first months of 2027 without confirmed release dates.
