JJ WATT REVEALS STADIUM SECURITY DENIED HIM ENTRY BEFORE BRONCOS GAME
JJ Watt said stadium security denied him entry to Empower Field at Mile High on Sunday morning, before he called the Denver Broncos' match against the Kansas City Chiefs for CBS. Watt, a CBS colour commentator and former Houston Texans defensive end, told the story on air with analyst Kyle Long. He said he was on an early morning walk when he spotted the stadium and headed towards it. A facial recognition scan identified him by name, Watt said, but staff turned him away because he had no credential. "So I'm like, 'All right,' I start to walk in, and they go, 'Sorry, sorry, you can't come in,'" he said.
Watt said the walk began around 6am, after the clocks changed for daylight savings in the western US. He said a stadium employee who recognised him tried to intervene, but security staff refused him access. "Respect to the Broncos security staff, but I couldn't get into the stadium this morning, so I still haven't been," he said. Long joked that Watt might be the only person successfully blocked, while one fan online compared the security team to a pass-blocking lineman.
Watt gained entry to the stadium in time to call the match, which the Broncos won 28-24 as quarterback Bo Nix led a fourth-quarter comeback against Patrick Mahomes. Watt and commentator Jim Nantz were also praised for their coverage of kicker Justin Tucker, whom the Chiefs signed to their practice squad. Tucker has not played in the NFL since 2024 after the league found he had violated its personal conduct policy. Watt is a three-time NFL Defensive Player of the Year and holds a minority ownership stake in Burnley FC.
