BEN GANNON-DOAK INSPIRES SCOTLAND TO FIRST WORLD CUP WIN SINCE 1990

Scotland defeated Haiti 1-0 in a World Cup match played at Boston Stadium. Ben Gannon-Doak, a winger for Bournemouth, provided the assist for John McGinn's goal in the 29th minute. Gannon-Doak created two clear scoring opportunities in the first half, first setting up Scott McTominay in the 17th minute and then assisting Che Adams in the 29th minute, with the rebound falling to McGinn.

The victory marked Scotland's first World Cup win since Mo Johnston scored against Sweden in 1990. Scotland's previous World Cup goal came from Craig Burley in 1998. Haiti mounted a determined defensive performance and created several half-chances that could have altered the result. The match took place in front of a large Scottish contingent of supporters, with Boston Stadium displaying a predominance of salmon pink colours.

Gannon-Doak's performance recalled Scotland's historical tradition of skilled wingers including Jimmy Johnstone, John Robertson, Archie Gemmill and Pat Nevin. The win provides Scotland with an opportunity to progress from Group C, as a single goal may prove insufficient to advance from the tournament. The result represents a significant achievement for the Scottish national team after an extended period without World Cup victories.
