WAYNE SLEEP REVEALS HE IS UNDERGOING CANCER TREATMENT
Wayne Sleep has told fans he is receiving treatment for cancer, sharing the update with followers on social media. The former Royal Ballet dancer, 78, posted on Instagram on Sunday after addressing comments about his recent appearance. "Since the summer, I have been undergoing treatment for cancer," he wrote, without naming his exact diagnosis. He added that the treatment "appears to be working" and that he was "on the mend thanks to all at the Royal Marsden". Sleep said he was "in good spirits and feeling positive about the future" and thanked people for their "kindness and concern". He signed off the post "Much love, Wayne x".
The post was accompanied by a photograph of Sleep wrapped in a jacket and beanie, taken at Kew Gardens, where he had been to see the Henry Moore exhibition. The announcement comes 11 years after Sleep was diagnosed with prostate cancer. He has previously said his PSA levels were first found to be raised in 2010, with an MRI and biopsy in July 2015 leading to that diagnosis. He chose brachytherapy, a treatment in which radioactive pellets are placed in the prostate to kill cancer cells, which the NHS lists among prostate cancer treatments.
Sleep found fame as a dancer with the Royal Ballet before building a career as a director, choreographer and actor, including stage roles in Cats and Cabaret. He finished fourth on I'm A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! in 2003, alongside contestants including Danniella Westbrook and Toyah Willcox. He also appeared in the Celebrity Big Brother house in 2018, finishing fifth, and was a judge on ITV's Stepping Out in 2013 alongside Mel B and Jason Gardiner.
