NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS BEAT MIAMI DOLPHINS 24-19 IN SECOND-HALF COMEBACK
The New England Patriots defeated the Miami Dolphins 24-19 in Miami after overturning a 13-3 half-time deficit. Quarterback Drake Maye threw for 199 yards with two touchdowns and no interceptions, and ran for a two-yard score. Wide receiver Pop Douglas caught three passes for 76 yards, including a 48-yard fourth-quarter touchdown. Patriots tight end Hunter Henry suffered a first-half foot injury and did not return.
Miami sacked Maye twice in the first half and held him to seven-of-10 passing for 53 yards. Maye opened the second half with eight consecutive completions for 144 yards, including a touchdown over 40 yards to Kyle Williams. Safety Kevin Byard claimed his first Patriots interception before Douglas scored, catching a Malik Willis throw off defensive lineman DaQuan Jones's helmet. Kevin Coleman caught a 35-yard Miami touchdown before the two-minute warning, and the Dolphins missed the extra point. New England recovered the onside kick and running back Rhamondre Stevenson, who rushed 18 times for 77 yards, secured the final yards.
The victory took the Patriots to a 5-3 record after scoring 21 unanswered second-half points against the 1-5 Dolphins. Maye produced points with both his arm and his legs for the second consecutive week. Figures from Doug Kyed placed Patriots rookie outside linebacker Gabe Jacas first among qualified rookie edge defenders in pass-rush grade and win rate through eight weeks. Kyed's data ranked Jacas ninth overall in win rate, 12th in pass-rush grade, 17th in productivity and 23rd in total pressures.
