SHEFFIELD UNITED BEAT WREXHAM 1-0 AT BRAMALL LANE

SAT 31 OCT 2026 FOOTBALL

Sheffield United beat Wrexham 1-0 at Bramall Lane on Friday, with Ben Brereton Díaz scoring the only goal in the first half. Brereton Díaz struck in the 30th minute after Wrexham goalkeeper Anthony Patterson parried a low shot from Jordan Ayew. Japhet Tanganga had found Ayew in the penalty area before Brereton Díaz converted the rebound. The goal was the Chile forward’s first of the season during his third loan spell with Sheffield United.

Ayew had earlier shot narrowly wide, while Patterson gathered Sydie Peck’s low effort. Lewis O’Brien produced Wrexham’s first attempt in the 24th minute. Kalvin Phillips needed treatment but returned to play, and Liam Kitching later tackled Ollie Rathbone to prevent a chance before half-time. After the break, former Sheffield United striker Kieffer Moore shot over the crossbar for Wrexham. Ben Sheaf then tackled Ayew as he ran towards goal after a long clearance from Sheffield United goalkeeper Michael Cooper.

Pre-match figures put the combined goal total in the clubs’ previous five meetings at 27, with both teams scoring in each. The result gave Sheffield United their third win in five league matches and put them within one point of the Championship’s top eight. Wrexham have lost four of their last seven league matches, according to the match figures. A rendition of The Last Post preceded kick-off to mark Remembrance. Romelle Donovan, on loan from Brentford, made way for Tyrese Campbell in the 86th minute; Campbell then set up Peck for a shot that Patterson saved.
