NOAH WYLE RECOUNTS EDDIE MURPHY AUTOGRAPH ENCOUNTER

FRI 30 OCT 2026 FILM

Noah Wyle said Eddie Murphy told him to “Fuck off, man” when he asked for an autograph as a child. Wyle recounted the encounter on Amy Poehler’s Good Hang podcast. He said he had told Murphy that he liked watching him on Saturday Night Live. According to Wyle, Murphy first asked what he was doing up late enough to watch it, and Wyle laughed nervously before asking again for the autograph.

Wyle said the exchange took place in the early 1980s, when Murphy appeared in the Saturday Night Live cast. He told Poehler that the encounter has shaped how he responds to people who ask for his autograph. “I always sign an autograph. Whenever a nine-year-old needs an autograph from me, I sign that so fast,” Wyle said. Wyle plays Dr Michael “Robby” Robinavitch in the medical drama The Pitt and has won two Emmys for the performance, one for each season released so far.

The Pitt’s third season is expected to premiere in January. Wyle said its story will take place on 12 November 2026 and address impending changes to medical insurance under Donald Trump’s One Big Beautiful Bill. At a press conference, he said the programme’s makers wanted to depict a period when people were awaiting those changes in January. Wyle also said he liked the idea that the following day in the story would be Friday the 13th.
