YAMAMOTO LOSES PERFECT GAME ON BETTS ERROR, THEN NO-HITTER ON HOME RUN
Yoshinobu Yamamoto of the Los Angeles Dodgers lost a perfect game on an error by Mookie Betts in the eighth inning during a match against the Chicago White Sox on Saturday. The error ended Yamamoto's bid to become only the second Dodger to achieve a perfect game. Yamamoto then surrendered a home run in the ninth inning, losing the no-hitter as well. The White Sox ultimately scored in the ninth to prevent Yamamoto from completing either milestone.
Sandy Koufax remains the only Dodger pitcher to have thrown a perfect game in franchise history. The Dodgers organisation holds 26 no-hitters across all their players, more than any other Major League Baseball franchise. Yamamoto's performance on Saturday came close to joining that historical record but fell short in both categories. The ninth-inning home run marked the moment the no-hitter was surrendered.
The result means Yamamoto did not add to the Dodgers' no-hitter total on the day. Betts' error in the eighth inning proved the decisive moment in ending both the perfect game bid and, ultimately, the no-hitter attempt. Saturday's match concluded with the White Sox scoring additional runs in the ninth inning. The Dodgers continue their season following this result against Chicago.
