MELANIE LYNSKEY TAKES ERIN PATTERSON ROLE IN PARAMOUNT+ DRAMA

WED 28 OCT 2026

Paramount+ has commissioned Mushroom Murders, a six-part drama in which Melanie Lynskey will play Erin Patterson. The series will cover the 97 days between a family lunch in Leongatha, Victoria, and Patterson’s arrest. Patterson served guests a beef Wellington containing poisonous death cap mushrooms in July 2023. Three guests died, and another became seriously ill but survived. Lynskey will also serve as an executive producer.

A jury found Patterson guilty in July 2025 of murdering Don and Gail Patterson and Heather Wilkinson, and of attempting to murder Ian Wilkinson. The court sentenced her to life imprisonment with a non-parole period of 33 years. Anya Beyersdorf, Daina Reid and Deb Balderstone created Mushroom Murders and will serve as executive producers. Reid will direct all six episodes, while Beyersdorf will write alongside Dianne Taylor and Belinda Chayko. Soapbox Pictures will produce the series.

The announcement did not give a release date. Xavier Marchand and Sophia Mogford will serve as executive producers for Paramount+. Lynskey currently stars in Yellowjackets, which is heading into its fourth and final season. She has received two Emmy nominations for her performance in that series. Some viewers welcomed her casting, while others called the Patterson drama “too soon”.
