BETFAIR CUSTOMER WINS £997,385 FROM £4 FOOTBALL BET

Betfair said a customer from Portsmouth won £997,385.09 from a £4 football accumulator on Saturday, 24 October. The bet covered 12 Sky Bet EFL matches, with each selection requiring more than 11.5 corners. The customer chose a corners bet for every match. Betfair posted details of the winning bet that day. Eleven of the matches produced at least 13 corners each, according to details of the wager.

The selections included Preston’s 1-1 draw with West Brom, QPR’s 5-0 win over Swansea and Oxford’s goalless draw with Bradford. Reading beat Barnsley 2-1, Stevenage lost 1-0 to MK Dons and Doncaster beat Sheffield Wednesday 2-0. Cambridge lost 3-2 to Plymouth, AFC Wimbledon drew 1-1 with Wycombe and Notts County drew 1-1 with Stockport. Burton Albion beat Leyton Orient 2-1, Bromley drew 1-1 with Peterborough and Blackpool lost 4-1 to Mansfield.

The AFC Wimbledon-Wycombe match produced exactly 12 corners, the fewest of any selection on the bet. Its 12th corner came with 15 minutes of normal time remaining. The customer told Betfair that he and his friends usually put together a weekend accumulator, adding: “we all pick a leg and put them in our group chat”. He said the group usually chose both teams to score, while he preferred corners. He added: “I had £4 in my account so I decided to do one of my own with a few more corners in.”
