MAHOMES TELLS SIMMONS TO LEAVE CHIEFS MEETING

SUN 25 OCT 2026 US SPORTS

Patrick Mahomes told Josh Simmons to leave a Kansas City Chiefs team meeting on Wednesday during an exchange between Simmons and head coach Andy Reid. Reid had asked Simmons to take his feet down. Simmons said he had put them up because of a back injury. Reid told him to seek treatment from the training staff if he could not sit upright. Mahomes then told Simmons to stop disrupting the meeting, and Simmons left.

Simmons later apologised to Reid and other team leaders. The Chiefs listed his absence from Wednesday's practice as “back/not injury related-personal” on their injury report. Rick Burkholder, the Chiefs’ vice president of sports medicine and performance, said the personal reason was time the team had given Simmons to speak with his family and agents about his back injury. The Chiefs placed Simmons on injured reserve on Thursday. He has not practised since August and has not played this season.

The Chiefs selected Simmons in the first round of last year's draft. They intended him to play left tackle and protect Mahomes’ blind side. Simmons has played eight games for the Chiefs and missed 14. The earliest he could play again is the Chiefs’ Week 11 game against the Cardinals.
