ASTON VILLA BEAT MANCHESTER CITY 2-1 WITH JACKSON DOUBLE
Aston Villa beat Manchester City 2-1 in the Premier League, ending City’s winning start to the league season. Nicolas Jackson opened the scoring in the sixth minute after Marc Guéhi miscontrolled a pass from Rúben Dias. Erling Haaland scored for City in the 52nd minute, before Jackson struck again in the 60th. The result gave Pep Guardiola’s side their first league defeat of the campaign.
Manchester City had won their first seven Premier League matches of the season. City had more possession around Villa’s penalty area, but goalkeeper Zion Suzuki made several saves. Suzuki denied Iliman Ndiaye and Rayan Cherki, while Ndiaye also struck a post and had a penalty appeal turned down. City were penalised for taking too long over a goal kick during the opening stages. Villa limited space for City’s wingers by assigning two defenders to them.
The defeat was City’s fourth in succession at Villa’s ground. City had also conceded two goals following mistakes against Ipswich the previous Saturday. Villa entered this match second in the Champions League standings, with three wins from three games in that competition. Jackson’s two goals brought his tally to six in six games, according to figures cited for the match.
