HOUTHIS RENEW WARNING OVER RIYADH AIRPORT

SUN 25 OCT 2026 MIDDLE EAST

Yemen’s Houthis renewed their warning on Sunday against using King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia. Yahya Saree, the group’s military spokesman, directed the warning at airlines, airport staff and travellers. He described the airport as “unsafe” and said it remained a “military target”. The warning came hours after the airport announced how it would assign domestic and international flights to its terminals from Sunday.

Airport operations had been suspended following an attack on 10 October. The Houthis claimed responsibility for the attack. The reported death toll was 13 people, with more than 300 others reported injured. The airport’s announcement on Saturday set out terminal arrangements following that suspension, while Saree’s statement renewed the group’s warning about using the facility.

King Khalid International Airport said it would designate Terminal 1 for domestic flights from Sunday. It assigned Terminal 2 to international flights operated by Saudi national airlines, also from Sunday. The airport announced those allocations late on Saturday, ahead of Saree’s statement to people travelling through or working at the airport. Saree said Houthi operations against the airport would continue.
