YASMEEN ALI RECEIVES INDEFINITE HOSPITAL ORDER

SAT 24 OCT 2026 CRIME

Yasmeen Ali has received an indefinite hospital order in a secure psychiatric facility after admitting she killed her three children in Bristol. Fares Bash, Joury Bash and Mohammed Bash were found dead at a home on Blaise Walk in Sea Mills on 18 February 2024. At Bristol Crown Court, Ali pleaded guilty to three counts of manslaughter on the grounds of diminished responsibility. Prosecutors accepted the pleas after her defence said she was suffering from an “acute psychosis” at the time. Justice Linden told Ali: “It is my view you would not have done what you have if you were well.”

Ali called 999 after the killings, speaking Arabic and telling police she was “going to God”. Officers found her with self-inflicted wounds to her neck and stomach, and found the children dead on her bed. An inquest heard that all three died of stab wounds to their chests and necks, while Fares also showed possible signs of asphyxia. The court heard that blood covered the landing and that the house was “dirty and chaotic”.

Ali had been discharged from mental health services six days before the killings. Two doctors told the court they believed she had schizoaffective disorder. Justice Linden said psychiatric evidence linked her offending almost entirely to mental disorder. Avon and Somerset Police referred its earlier contact with Ali to the Independent Office for Police Conduct. The watchdog decided it did not need to investigate. The children’s father, Alfil Bash, called them his “whole world” in a victim impact statement.
