OLIVER KAHN WARNS JULIAN NAGELSMANN AGAINST MANCHESTER UNITED JOB
Oliver Kahn has warned Julian Nagelsmann against taking the Manchester United manager’s job, citing the club’s recent changes of manager. Kahn, Bayern Munich’s former chief executive, made the comments as questions grew about Michael Carrick’s position. Nagelsmann is out of work after leaving Germany’s national team following its World Cup exit. Manchester United gave Carrick the job on a permanent basis in the summer. Nagelsmann was among the names discussed for the post at the time.
Manchester United lost 4-1 at Como in the Champions League this week. Carrick waved to the travelling supporters after the match. Nagelsmann previously managed Bayern Munich and RB Leipzig, and worked with Kahn at Bayern. José Mourinho, Louis van Gaal and Ruben Amorim have also managed Manchester United in recent years. Kahn pointed to their tenures when explaining why he considered the job a risk for Nagelsmann.
Speaking on Sky Germany’s Triple – der Hagedorn Fußballtalk, Kahn said: “The Premier League and Manchester United have not been known for much continuity in the managerial position in recent years.” He said Nagelsmann had to consider what his next career step should be. Kahn described a move to United as an “enormous risk”. He said “essentially every manager in recent years has failed sooner or later” at the club.
