UNITED STATES WILL HOST WOMEN'S CLUB WORLD CUP IN 2028

FRI 23 OCT 2026 RUGBY

Fifa has confirmed that the United States will host the inaugural Women's Club World Cup from 5 to 30 January 2028. The competition will feature 19 teams and is scheduled to take place every four years. Arsenal, Barcelona, Gotham FC, Club América Femenil, Corinthians, Naegohyang and Wuhan Jiangda have secured places. Fifa has yet to determine the remaining 12 entrants.

Figures for Europe's allocation range from six to eight places. The tournament also allocates three places each to clubs from Asia, Africa, North and Central America and the Caribbean, and South America, plus one to Oceania. The United States staged the men's Club World Cup in 2025 and co-hosted the men's World Cup with Mexico and Canada in 2026. It is also scheduled to co-host the 2031 Women's World Cup with Costa Rica, Jamaica and Mexico.

Fifa's chief women's football officer, Sarai Bareman, said the United States' record of staging tournaments, interest in women's football and sporting infrastructure made it the “standout option”. Bareman said participating clubs would have an opportunity to expand their fanbases and reach a global audience. The Women's Super League described the January scheduling as potentially “catastrophic” earlier in 2026. Fifa introduced another mid-season women's competition, the Champions Cup, in 2026; Arsenal won its first edition in February.
