BBC STREAMS GAELIC FERRY HORROR SERIES WOLF BAY

FRI 23 OCT 2026

BBC iPlayer is streaming Wolf Bay, a Gaelic-language horror series created and written by Claire Aza-Selinger. The series, also titled Loch nam Madadh, follows a Caledonian MacBrayne ferry travelling from Uig on Skye to Lochmaddy in North Uist. An engine failure at sea and a discovery in the cafeteria kitchen leave passengers and crew fighting for survival. Those aboard come to fear that a wolf is loose on the vessel.

Glasgow-based Storyboard Studios developed and produced the series for the BBC. Filming took place aboard CalMac’s MV Loch Frisa while the ferry was in dry dock at Troon. MV Loch Frisa normally runs between Oban and the Isle of Mull. Ellen Macdonald and Andrew MacInnes play Màiri and Angus, while Elspeth Turner plays Margaret. Lochmaddy’s name, which dates back to the 17th century, is said to refer to rocks in its bay shaped like a creature.

BBC Scotland and the Gaelic-language channel BBC Alba commissioned the short-form series. Its release on BBC iPlayer comes in the run-up to Halloween. The series’ description promises “jump scares” and “breathless cliffhangers”. It also describes a drama that blends dark humour, island identity and suspense.
