BOURNEMOUTH BEAT AC MILAN 3-0
Bournemouth beat AC Milan 3-0 at the Vitality Stadium on Thursday to win their third straight Europa League match. Justin Kluivert scored a seventh-minute penalty after referee Vassilios Fotias reviewed footage showing Koni De Winter handling Evanilson’s header. Fotias later sent off Milan goalkeeper Mike Maignan for pushing Tyler Adams in the face as they jostled at a corner. Lorenzo Torriani replaced Maignan, but Marcus Tavernier scored the resulting penalty before half-time. Substitute Amine Adli added a third goal with a free-kick in the 84th minute.
Bournemouth had opened their Europa League campaign with wins over Real Sociedad and Sturm Graz. Ben Gannon-Doak had an early shot blocked against Milan, and Evanilson headed wide before the first penalty decision. Ryan Christie forced a save from Maignan with a shot from distance and had another effort blocked later in the match. Bournemouth substitute Rayan headed over in the second half. Kluivert’s father, Patrick, played for Milan in 1998.
Bournemouth became the first English side since Sunderland 53 years ago to win their first three matches in a maiden campaign in major European competition. Sunderland beat Vasas twice in the 1973-74 Cup Winners’ Cup before defeating Sporting Lisbon 2-1 at home. Sporting Lisbon won the return leg 2-0. Bournemouth boss Marco Rose called the Milan result “A big night for us”. Bournemouth’s next European match is away to Sparta Prague on 5 November.
