MARK RONSON JOINS AMY WINEHOUSE BAND FOR BACK TO BLACK CONCERT
Mark Ronson joined The Amy Winehouse Band at London’s Roundhouse in Camden on Wednesday 21 October for a concert marking 20 years of *Back to Black*. The band performed the album’s full tracklist, with original producers Ronson and Salaam Remi taking part. Corinne Bailey Rae sang the title track while Ronson accompanied her on piano. The concert took place days before the 20th anniversary of Winehouse’s second album. Guest vocalists also included Baby Rose, Sasha Keable, Skye Newman, Jessie Reyez and Yebba.
Yebba performed “Love Is A Losing Game”, while FLO sang “He Can Only Hold Her”. Nia Smith sang “Tears Dry On Their Own”, Terri Walker performed “Me & Mr Jones”, and Lianne La Havas took on “You Know I’m No Good”. Baby Rose performed “Wake Up Alone”, Jorja Smith sang “Some Unholy War”, and Jessie Reyez performed “Rehab”. Towards the end of the concert, the guest performers shared the vocals on “Valerie”. Winehouse’s longtime musical director Dale Davis, producers Paul O’Duffy and p*nut, and former Island Records president Darcus Beese also attended.
When organisers announced the concert, Ronson said: “I’m honoured to be asked to come celebrate Amy alongside Salaam and some amazing artists worthy of singing her songs.” He added: “Doing justice to the legacy of ‘Back To Black’ is the order of the night.” Remi marked the anniversary by saying: “Funny how time flies! I can’t believe it’s been 20 years already.” The concert brought Winehouse’s band together with artists who each performed selections from her album. Ronson’s appearance reunited him with the musicians for a one-off performance in Camden.
