Queensland police arrested former Australian sprint champion Jake Doran in Townsville on 13 October and charged him with one count of indecent treatment of a child under 16. Police described the charge as involving an “indecent film etc” and said their investigation covers January 2025 to September 2026. Doran was granted bail and is due before Townsville Magistrates Court on 5 November. Queensland police said their investigation is continuing.

Doran won the national 100m title in 2022, finishing ahead of Eddie Nketia in a wind-assisted time of 10.05 seconds. He later represented Australia at the world championships and Commonwealth Games and won the national 200m title in 2023. Doran has trained athletes in Townsville and works in business development at Tafe Queensland. Australian Athletics said he holds no paid or unpaid role with the organisation. Queensland Athletics declined to comment.

Australian Athletics has barred Doran from club, member association and national governing body events, as well as athletics training, while the case continues. A spokesperson said: “The safety and wellbeing of all participants in our sport is paramount, and we take all allegations of this nature very seriously.” Tafe Queensland said it understood the allegations to be unrelated to Doran’s employment and had no indication they involved its students, staff or activities. Its spokesperson said: “The employee has been suspended from duty while the matter is before the courts.”
