SANA SAYS ISRAELI FORCES KILLED MAN IN SOUTHERN SYRIA
Syria’s state news agency SANA said Israeli forces shot dead a man with disabilities during a raid on Jamla, in southern Deraa governorate, early on Thursday. SANA said the forces entered the village, searched properties and stationed snipers on the rooftops of homes. State media said troops fired “indiscriminately” across residential neighbourhoods. SANA said the man’s body was taken to Deraa National Hospital.
The Israeli military did not immediately comment on the account. On Thursday, Israeli forces also searched homes in Turnejeh, in neighbouring Quneitra governorate, and detained one person, according to SANA. The agency said Israeli forces destroyed trees in a field near the village of Saida earlier in the week. It has also reported raids and the destruction of olive groves in Quneitra in recent days.
On Sunday, Syria’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs condemned “the intensification of incursions by the Israeli occupation” in Quneitra and Deraa. Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa has said Israeli actions “undermine peace and security”. Israeli officials have said they intend to retain troops in an area they call a “security zone” in southern Syria. Israel and Syria have opened talks on a security agreement, which have largely stalled since the US-Israel war on Iran began in February.
