BODY FOUND IN DERELICT SHEFFIELD TGI FRIDAYS AS MURDER PROBE LAUNCHED
South Yorkshire Police launched a murder inquiry after discovering a man's body inside the former TGI Fridays restaurant in Sheffield. Officers attended the derelict premises on 10 June following reports of suspicious activity. Two women, aged 35 and 54, were arrested on suspicion of murder on 11 June and remained in custody for questioning. The man, aged 55, has not yet been formally identified, though his family has been notified and is receiving support from police.
DCI Laura Procter, Senior Investigating Officer, stated that officers have been conducting enquiries to establish the circumstances surrounding the discovery. Police are seeking information from anyone who witnessed suspicious activity in the area around the building in the days before 10 June. A cordon around the premises remained in place as of 12 June. The public can contact officers on 101 or report online, quoting incident number 897 of 10 June, with any information they believe may assist the investigation.
TGI Fridays has confirmed that the Sheffield Road site ceased operations in January 2026 and is no longer owned by the company or any affiliated organisation. The closure formed part of a wider shutdown affecting 16 UK TGI Fridays restaurants following the UK operator entering administration. The company stated it has disassociated itself from the property entirely.
