BARCELONA FILES UEFA COMPLAINT OVER PSG SUPPORTERS' BANNER
Barcelona have lodged a complaint with UEFA over a banner raised by Paris Saint-Germain supporters before Tuesday’s Champions League match at Parc des Princes. Fans behind one goal displayed a masked figure using a chainsaw to cut through Barcelona’s badge as the players came onto the pitch. The banner bore the words “Massacre, Parisian style”, and supporters used pyrotechnics to depict sparks from the chainsaw. A source described Barcelona’s view of the display as “overly aggressive and offensive”.
PSG led 1-0 at half-time and went on to win 4-2 in Paris. Désiré Doué and Lucas Hernandez put PSG ahead at different stages, while Xavi Espart and Lamine Yamal scored equalisers for Barcelona. Vitinha and Fabian Ruiz scored in the final 10 minutes to secure all three points for PSG. PSG entered the match as reigning Champions League winners, while Barcelona were the reigning La Liga champions.
Barcelona submitted its complaint after the match, bringing the supporters’ display before UEFA. The complaint concerned the banner that appeared before kick-off. Luis Enrique praised the home support after PSG’s victory, saying: “What an atmosphere there was here!” He added: “The banners of our fans were once again stunning.”
