DAVID RAYA EXPRESSES WISH TO PLAY IN LA LIGA

THU 22 OCT 2026 FOOTBALL

Arsenal goalkeeper David Raya said he would like to play in Spain’s La Liga before he retires. He said he remains happy at Arsenal and gave no timetable for a possible move. “I would love to try out La Liga. For now, I'm very happy here [at Arsenal], but I would certainly like to experience the Spanish league,” Raya said. He described La Liga as a competitive league and said he would like to play for a Spanish club in the future.

Raya grew up supporting Real Madrid and has spent his professional career in English football. He initially joined Arsenal on loan from Brentford in 2023, after previously playing for Blackburn Rovers. His Arsenal contract runs until 2028, and he received a salary increase under that deal last year. Raya has won the Premier League Golden Glove in each of the past three seasons.

Raya earned places in the Premier League and Champions League teams of the season last season. The Yashin Trophy shortlist includes him among ten goalkeepers ahead of the award at next week’s Ballon d’Or ceremony. Spain included Raya in its World Cup-winning squad this summer, but Unai Simon played ahead of him throughout the tournament. “Perhaps the only thing missing was playing in the World Cup,” Raya said.
