DRONE DEBRIS KILLS TWO AT SAUDI OIL FIELD
Saudi Arabia’s Energy Ministry said debris from an intercepted drone killed two people and injured two others at the Shaybah oil field on Wednesday. Aramco operates the field in the country’s southeast. The ministry identified those killed as “Nepali and Filipino nationals” and said the injured people were Pakistani and Indian nationals. It said the falling debris also set fire to a contractor’s vehicle.
Saudi Arabia has faced repeated Houthi attacks on its airports and oil facilities. Last month, debris from an intercepted Houthi drone killed a Yemeni resident of Saudi Arabia, the first civilian death reported since the Houthis increased their attacks on Saudi shipping and oil facilities. Earlier this month, an attack on an Aramco administrative building in Saudi Arabia’s Eastern Province caused a limited fire, according to the Energy Ministry. Renewed fighting involving the Houthis in Yemen has broken a four-year truce.
Riyadh’s King Khalid International Airport was open for domestic flights on Wednesday after Houthi strikes this month led to its closure on 10 October. FlightAware data showed Saudia and FlyNas operating flights. Lufthansa and Air France have cancelled services through mid-November. The Houthis have acknowledged attacking the airport and claimed, without providing evidence, that Saudi Arabia used it to deliver military equipment to government forces.
