PSG CONFIRMS KHVICHA KVARATSKHELIA KNEE INJURY
Paris Saint-Germain said Khvicha Kvaratskhelia tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee during Tuesday’s 4-2 Champions League win over Barcelona. The Georgian winger left the pitch shortly before the hour mark after appearing to twist his knee. Medical staff helped him off the pitch. PSG said he would undergo surgery in the coming days. Kvaratskhelia wrote on social media: “Why me? I was not ready for this.”
Desire Doue, Lucas Hernandez, Vitinha and Fabian Ruiz scored PSG’s goals against Barcelona. The win put PSG top of the Champions League league phase standings after three matches, all of which they won. PSG also said Ousmane Dembélé and Marquinhos had suffered thigh injuries and would receive treatment over the coming weeks. Dembélé left the pitch in the first half, while Marquinhos went off later in the match.
PSG have won the past two Champions League titles. Kvaratskhelia won a penalty for PSG’s equaliser against Arsenal in last year’s final in Budapest. Speaking after Tuesday’s match and before PSG confirmed the diagnoses, Luis Enrique said the club would await tests on the three injured players. “They are three very important players, so it's really bad news, of course, but that's football,” he said. Kvaratskhelia told his supporters: “I won't let you down, I promise I won't waste a second.”
