MATEUSZ CHMURA DIES AFTER COLLAPSE AT BODYBUILDING FINALS

THU 22 OCT 2026

The Physical Culture Association said bodybuilder Mateusz Chmura died after collapsing on stage at the PCA British Finals in Telford. Chmura, who lived in Wakefield, was competing in the Classic Bodybuilding Medium category at the Telford International Centre on Sunday. Medics treated him at the venue before an ambulance took him to hospital, where he later died. The association announced his death on Monday. The cause of his collapse has not been confirmed.

On-site medics, medical professionals in the audience, a local ambulance crew and Midlands Air Ambulance assisted Chmura, according to the association. Organisers stopped the competition while he received treatment. They resumed it after he was taken to hospital, following a meeting with the other competitors. Chmura had made his bodybuilding debut two weeks earlier. He finished second at the PCA First Timers event in Yorkshire on 4 October.

Chmura’s wife, Patrycja Chmura, said an online fundraiser claiming to collect money for the family had been set up without her permission. In a statement shared on her husband’s Instagram account, she said: “I have not authorised anyone to collect money on behalf of me or my family.” She urged people not to donate to it. The association thanked those who helped Chmura and asked people to respect his family’s privacy. It also acknowledged the distress of those who witnessed his collapse.
