BRADFORD CITY LOSE TOP SPOT AFTER BURTON ALBION DRAW
Bradford City lost top spot in League One after a goalless draw at Burton Albion on Tuesday night. Bradford manager Michael Duff said his side had created enough chances and called the result “two points dropped”. Burton goalkeeper Corey Addai saved an effort from Antoni Sarcevic, while Bradford substitute Adam Phillips missed a late chance. Duff said Bradford had 18 shots, 17 inside the box, but Addai made only two saves. The result gave Bradford a third draw in four league matches and a second in three under Duff.
Bradford travelled to the Pirelli Stadium after Duff’s first league win, a 2-0 victory over Stevenage. Burton had beaten Bradford 2-1 in both meetings last season. Ahead of Tuesday’s match, Duff said he expected to change his starting line-up as Bradford began a run of six midweek games in eight weeks. He said the team would need contributions from the whole squad rather than the same starting 11 each week.
Burton head coach Gary Bowyer said his side had chances to win, while its winless league run reached four matches. Charlie Webster forced Bradford goalkeeper Jon McCracken into a late save, and McCracken also denied substitute Matty Dennis. Bowyer said he was “delighted” with the clean sheet against a side that had arrived top of the table. He said his players had responded to a difficult meeting on Monday. Duff said Bradford’s attacking output had risen, but added: “You have to score one and that is the bit that we can’t do for them.”
