MIKE EVANS AGGRAVATES ACHILLES INJURY IN 49ERS WIN
Mike Evans left the San Francisco 49ers’ 23-17 win over the Washington Commanders on Monday night after aggravating an Achilles injury in the first half. The 49ers ruled the receiver out for the rest of the game. Kyle Shanahan said afterwards that Evans has Achilles tendinitis, which had bothered him throughout the week. Shanahan said the team hopes Evans can play against the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday.
Evans had been listed as questionable for Monday’s game after struggling to practise during the week. Shanahan said Evans believed he could play, but the team knew he might not last the full game. “It’s something that he’s had before,” Shanahan said. The 49ers led 20-3 when Evans left, before Washington narrowed the score and threatened to take the lead in the fourth quarter. Shanahan said losing Evans affected San Francisco in the second half, while other factors also contributed to the close finish.
Shanahan said he did not believe Evans would need further testing. He also said he did not expect the condition to keep Evans out for a long period, though his availability against Atlanta remained uncertain. Shanahan said the other receivers would need to step up if Evans could not play on Sunday. He hoped Evans would recover during the week or, if necessary, after the team’s bye week.
