GOOGLE ADDS GEMINI PERSONAL INTELLIGENCE TO ANDROID AUTO

Google said on Tuesday it had begun rolling out Gemini Personal Intelligence to Android Auto users. The feature lets its in-car assistant draw on information from connected Google services to tailor responses. Google said the rollout excludes users in the UK, Switzerland, Nigeria and the European Economic Area. The company plans to bring the feature to cars with Google Built-in in the coming months. Drivers must opt in and can later switch it off or choose which apps Gemini can access.

The assistant can use information from Gmail, Google Calendar, YouTube, Maps and Google Search history, according to Google. The company said a driver heading to an airport could ask “what's my flight gate?” without searching for a confirmation email. It said Gemini could also use a calendar appointment to find a doctor's surgery without the driver giving an address. For restaurant suggestions along a route, Google said the assistant could take account of preferences such as vegetarianism. Android Auto runs through a mobile phone and displays navigation, media and messages on a vehicle's screen.

Google introduced Gemini to Android Auto last November and launched Personal Intelligence earlier this year. In March, it extended Personal Intelligence to free accounts after initially offering it to Google AI Pro and Ultra subscribers. Google Built-in integrates the company's software and services directly into vehicles. Google said the planned expansion would let drivers use Personal Intelligence through that system as well as Android Auto.
