EMILIANO BUENDIA NEARS NEW ASTON VILLA CONTRACT

Emiliano Buendia is reportedly close to agreeing a new contract with Aston Villa after talks made progress in recent days. The Argentina midfielder and the Premier League club are nearing agreement on a two-year extension. The proposed deal would keep Buendia at Villa until June 2029. His current contract expires at the end of this season, and Villa want to secure his future following his return to regular appearances.

Buendia has started every Premier League fixture for Aston Villa this campaign after previously struggling for playing opportunities. His return to a regular place in the side has come under Unai Emery. Buendia scored in Villa’s Europa League win over Freiburg in Istanbul last May. He also scored in Villa’s recent 3-2 victory over Tottenham at Spurs’ stadium, where he has scored before.

The proposed extension remains under negotiation, with both sides close to agreeing terms. It would give Buendia a further two years at Villa beyond the expiry of his current deal. His run of starts this campaign and his goals against Freiburg and Tottenham form the recent playing record behind Villa’s interest in extending his stay. Neither account gives a date for a completed agreement.
