SONY UNVEILS THREE NEW WALKMAN PLAYERS
Sony has unveiled three Walkman music players, led by the gold-plated NW-WM1ZM3, which its US website prices at $5,900. The other models are the NW-WM1AM3, priced at $3,000, and the NW-ZX900, priced at $1,900. Sony says all three run Android 16 and can connect to streaming services over Wi-Fi. The launch adds new devices to a brand Sony has continued to use since its portable cassette players became popular in the 1980s and 1990s.
The NW-WM1ZM3 has a 5.5-inch touchscreen, 256GB of built-in storage and a microSD card slot, according to Sony. The NW-WM1AM3 also has a 5.5-inch screen but offers 128GB of storage, while the NW-ZX900 has a five-inch screen and 64GB. All three players support formats including MP3, FLAC and Apple Lossless, as well as Bluetooth and wired headphones. Sony lists USB charging across the range and says the batteries provide around 30 hours of music playback.
Sony says it used oxygen-free copper components to deliver “uncompromising sound quality”. The company also says gold-plated screws in the players help provide a stable ground connection and affect the sound they produce. The flagship model includes a copper body, gold plating and support for high-resolution audio playback. Sony is taking pre-orders for the NW-WM1ZM3 on its website, with deliveries listed for 12 to 13 January 2027. It says the three new players will ship in mid-January.
