TERRY MCLAURIN LEAVES COMMANDERS GAME WITH KNEE INJURY
Washington Commanders wide receiver Terry McLaurin left Monday’s game against the San Francisco 49ers on a cart after injuring his left knee. He fell while running a route, grabbed his knee and could not reach the sideline without help. Washington’s medical staff put a splint on his left leg before taking him to the locker room. The Commanders ruled him out for the rest of the game. Accounts differ on when the play occurred, placing it either late in the first quarter or with 2:16 remaining in the first half.
McLaurin was running a third-down route with 49ers cornerback Deommodore Lenoir covering him when his leg gave way. Players from both teams approached him before the cart left the field. Washington trailed 14-3 when he left and had a 1-3-1 record. McLaurin had caught a 27-yard pass earlier in the game and led the Commanders with 230 receiving yards this season. He missed a Week 4 game with a hamstring injury.
Washington had already lost Jayden Daniels for a couple of games with an elbow injury, while Laremy Tunsil had not played this season after tearing a triceps in training camp. Marcus Mariota, Stefon Diggs, Sam Cosmi and Chig Okonkwo had also missed playing time, and Jacory Croskey-Merritt went on injured reserve this week. Diggs returned to Monday’s game after treatment for an apparent ring-finger injury sustained when his right hand hit 49ers safety Malik Mustapha’s helmet. Officials did not penalise Mustapha for the hit. ClutchPoints posted a video of McLaurin leaving the field with the message, “Hope he's okay 🙏”.
