KIMARI ROBINSON SWATS DUKE MEDICAL STAFF MEMBER'S ARM
Kimari Robinson swatted a Duke medical staff member’s arm as she approached an injured team-mate during Saturday’s American football game against North Carolina. Video of the third-quarter exchange shows the staff member trying to move Robinson aside while other medical personnel attended to the player. Accounts differ on the injured player’s identity, naming either DaShawn Stone or Landan Callahan; Robinson named Stone in his apology. A stretcher came onto the field, and the injured player walked off without it. North Carolina beat Duke 24-20 at Wallace Wade Stadium in Durham, North Carolina.
Robinson said he apologised to the staff member in person immediately after the game and checked that she was okay. In a post on X, he wrote: “I was completely wrong, and she did not deserve that.” He said Stone was “like family” to him and that he feared his team-mate might be seriously hurt. Robinson also said concern for the player did not excuse his treatment of the staff member and that he should have controlled his emotions.
A separate clip circulated on X appears to show Robinson confronting a security guard as he left the field earlier in the same game. Social media users criticised his conduct towards the medical staff member, and some called for Duke to remove him from the team. Duke had not publicly addressed the exchanges or announced any disciplinary action against Robinson. The defeat left Duke with a 4-2 overall record and a 1-2 record against Atlantic Coast Conference opponents, following two consecutive losses.
