CAM SKATTEBO RECORDS NO TOUCHES IN GIANTS LOSS TO SAINTS

MON 19 OCT 2026 US SPORTS

Cam Skattebo did not touch the ball during the New York Giants’ 34-27 loss to the New Orleans Saints on Sunday. The running back played six snaps after recording 91 touches across the first five games of the 2026 season. Skattebo said he believed his reduced workload was punishment for an overtime fumble against the Washington Commanders the previous week. “I got punished for what I did (from last week). I understand it,” he said. The fumble was his fourth in five games.

Quarterback J.J. McCarthy led New York with 26 rushing yards on two attempts. Receiver Darnell Mooney gained 20 yards on one attempt, while Tyrone Tracy Jr. led the Giants’ running backs with 18 yards from six carries. Devin Singletary and Najee Harris also carried the ball. New York gained 84 rushing yards, compared with 175 for New Orleans. The Giants trailed 34-10 before a late comeback attempt.

Giants coach John Harbaugh said Skattebo’s lack of touches was “not by design”. Harbaugh said the coaches gave the running backs equal repetitions in the first half while looking for someone who could produce consistently. He said the Giants did not call a running play when Skattebo was on the field. Skattebo said he had made mistakes and had to take responsibility for them. The Giants are due to visit the Houston Texans next Sunday.
