FLORIDA BEATS TEXAS AS COLIN SIMMONS LEAVES WITH LEG INJURY

SUN 18 OCT 2026 FOOTBALL

Florida beat Texas 27-24 on Saturday after a late turnover ended the Longhorns’ chance to take the lead. Texas pass rusher Colin Simmons left the field on a cart with a left leg injury in the fourth quarter. The defeat was Texas’s second in succession after the team had held the No. 1 ranking. Florida running back Jadan Baugh scored the winning touchdown in the fourth quarter. The result followed a difficult game for Texas quarterback Arch Manning.

Texas regained possession trailing by three points with about two and a half minutes left. A Florida defender sacked Manning, who fumbled, and Florida recovered the ball. Earlier, Manning lost a yard while trying to run for a first down on third-and-one. Texas tried another run by Manning on fourth-and-two, but Florida stopped him behind the line of scrimmage and took possession. Florida’s pass pressure also prevented Manning from escaping on several plays.

Baugh finished with 91 yards from 25 carries. Draft projections have identified Simmons as a possible top-five selection in the 2027 NFL draft. NCAA sack figures cited for the game placed him first nationally before his injury. Betting markets had also recently favoured Manning to be the first player selected in that draft. The available account gave no diagnosis for Simmons’s injury or timetable for his return.
