TORONTO POLICE OFFICER KILLED DURING RAID LINKED TO CONSULATE SHOOTING
Marc Pinizzotto, a police constable with the Toronto Police Service's Emergency Task Force, was fatally shot on Thursday whilst executing a search warrant at an apartment complex. He was transported to hospital following the incident but died from his injuries. The raid formed part of a series of search warrants executed by Toronto Police Service on Thursday connected to multiple shootings across the city.
The shootings under investigation include an incident in March at the United States consulate in Toronto, during which two suspects exited a vehicle and fired at police, resulting in no injuries. No arrests had been made in connection with that consulate shooting prior to Thursday's operations. One suspect apprehended during Thursday's raids remains in hospital in critical condition following being shot multiple times by police. A second suspect remains at large.
Toronto Police Service Chief Myron Demkiw confirmed in a statement that the investigation leading to the search warrant where Pinizzotto was killed concerned multiple shootings, including the consulate attack on University Avenue. Police have released limited information about the raid and related operations owing to the matter being part of a national security investigation. Multiple search warrants were executed during the morning operation.
