TRUCK KROSSES KANSAS FOOTBALL PITCH, KILLING TWO

SUN 18 OCT 2026

Wichita police said a truck drove across a pitch during a youth football match at Stryker Sports Complex in Kansas on Saturday afternoon, killing two people and injuring 11 others. Police Captain Aaron Moses said a child died at the scene and an adult also died. Both lived in McPherson, but they were not related, he said. Moses said police had taken the woman who drove the truck into custody. Two children were inside the vehicle.

Moses said the injured people received hospital treatment and that five of them were children. He described injuries ranging from bruises to severe injuries, but said police believed none were life-threatening. Police Chief Joe Sullivan said bystanders “sprang into action” to help casualties before emergency responders arrived. A witness said a black pickup truck struck several people before stopping further down the fields. Moses said investigators had yet to establish how the vehicle reached the pitch or how fast it travelled.

Moses said police had not determined why the truck crossed the pitch or whether the driver acted intentionally. He said the woman had cooperated with investigators. Wichita police have opened a portal for people to submit video evidence. The city cancelled all events at Stryker Sports Complex until further notice. Wichita Mayor Lily Wu said her thoughts were with those affected, particularly the children and families.
