POLICE INVESTIGATE GUS ORMO’S DEATH IN FLORIDA POOL

SUN 18 OCT 2026 CRIME

The Broward Sheriff’s Office said Venezuelan musician Gus Ormo was found dead in the swimming pool at his home in Weston, Florida, on Friday morning. Deputies went to the property on Quail Roost Drive after a 911 call at about 9am reported a possible drowning. Emergency crews found Ormo submerged in the pool and pronounced him dead at the scene. Authorities described the death as suspicious and opened a homicide investigation. An emergency dispatcher said Ormo was “tied up”; a long cord was reported around him in the pool.

Ormo’s sister, Antonieta Ormo, confirmed his death and said the family knew little about what had happened. Police have not confirmed whether a crime occurred. Public records indicate that Ormo had owned the Quail Roost Drive home for several years. Neighbours said he kept a low profile in Weston. Ormo sang, composed romantic songs and played the piano.

Investigators took Ormo’s body to the Broward County Medical Examiner’s Office, where a cause of death remains pending. At an event in Aventura in January, Ormo spoke about his career and his Venezuelan roots. He also wrote a tribute song to Venezuela centred on reconciliation and unity. Describing his latest music release, Ormo said: “In a world that makes us experience emotional numbness, the album is an invitation to feel without filters or need for words.” He added: “It’s my way to give back to music all it has given me.”
