DRONES STRIKE ST PETERSBURG OIL FACILITIES

SUN 18 OCT 2026 CRIME

An overnight drone attack on St Petersburg killed at least one person and injured at least five, regional Governor Alexander Beglov said on Sunday. Beglov said fires broke out at the St Petersburg Oil Terminal and Ruchyi oil depot. Russian retailer Ozon said a drone struck its local logistics centre and started a fire. VK said a drone hit its regional data centre, but its services remained available “as usual” after users reported outages. Kyiv has not commented on the strikes.

Russia’s defence ministry said its forces destroyed 1,015 Ukrainian drones overnight across 15 Russian regions, Crimea and the Black Sea. Beglov said the attack damaged 12 apartment buildings and two homes in St Petersburg. Pulkovo Airport closed temporarily, and Beglov warned that mobile internet service could be disrupted. Ozon said it evacuated staff from its logistics centre and reported no injuries there. The retailer said it had stopped accepting shipments from sellers at the site while it served other operational purposes.

US President Donald Trump said on 11 October that Russia and Ukraine had agreed to an “energy ceasefire”, but gave no details. Ukraine said it paused strikes on Russian oil facilities for three days before resuming them on Thursday, and accused Russia of continuing attacks on its energy sites. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said on Saturday that Russia had targeted Ukraine’s energy sector 76 times since Trump’s announcement. Trump criticised Kyiv’s renewed strikes and called for a truce linked to a diesel supply deal he said he had reached with Vladimir Putin. In Zaporizhzhia, local officials said two Russian attacks killed a woman and injured at least two other people.
