MAN DIES AFTER FALL FROM ARC DE TRIOMPHE

SUN 18 OCT 2026

A man died after falling from the Arc de Triomphe in Paris on Saturday, the prosecutor’s office confirmed. Emergency services received a call at about 3pm on 17 October concerning the fall in the city’s 8th arrondissement. Firefighters and paramedics attended the monument and pronounced the man dead. The fall was reported to have been about 50 metres, and several people witnessed it.

The Arc de Triomphe closed to the public after the death. Officials said they were investigating whether the man died by suicide and whether he had jumped from the monument. They described a jump as a hypothesis and had not established how the man fell. The account gave no date for when the landmark would reopen.

The death occurred during a day of protests across France. Police clashed with protesters in several cities, where accounts also described disorder and fires. Officials said they did not believe the death was connected to the protests “at this stage”.
