PAUL WHITEHOUSE RETRIEVES BANK CARD AFTER ISLINGTON MUGGING ATTEMPT

Paul Whitehouse retrieved his bank card after someone tried to mug him at a cashpoint in north London on Friday night, according to his wife, Dr Mine Conkbayir. She said the person took the card while Whitehouse was on Essex Road in Islington. Whitehouse fought back and recovered it, she said. Conkbayir said the person then fled without taking anything. She identified the cashpoint as the one beside Sainsbury’s Local.

Conkbayir said Whitehouse had gone out to buy medicine for her after she reacted badly to a treatment. In an Instagram post, she wrote: “Last night, Paul dashed out to get me some meds.” Whitehouse is a comedian who appears with Bob Mortimer in the BBC series *Gone Fishing*. Conkbayir described the encounter as a mugging, while the account she gave said Whitehouse recovered his card. Her post did not identify the person who took it.

Conkbayir said she shared the account after Whitehouse returned from taking their daughter to football and remained frustrated by what had happened. She said she asked Whitehouse whether she could post about it and he agreed. Conkbayir urged people to be “super vigilant” when out and about. Actor Georgina Hagen responded to the post, writing: “This is awful. I’m so sorry to read this.”
