POLICE SEARCH FOR TWO PEOPLE AFTER NOTTINGHAM OFFICER SHOT

Nottinghamshire Police said an officer was shot in the foot in Nottingham city centre early on Sunday after approaching two people in Angel Row. The force said the encounter took place shortly before 04:50 BST on 18 October. The officer was taken to hospital and is receiving treatment, police said. Detectives are searching for a man and a woman who fled the scene. Police said they recovered a firearm.

Officers set up a large cordon along Angel Row between Old Market Square and Upper Parliament Road. The closure extended to St James's Street, where an officer stood guard. Police vehicles were parked on Angel Row, and traffic cones marked items left on the road. Assistant Chief Constable Claire Rukas called the shooting “a sobering reminder of the potential dangers faced by officers as they work to protect and serve the public.” She said investigators were working to find the two people involved.

Rukas asked anyone with information to contact Nottinghamshire Police, saying: “Even the smallest bit of information could make all the difference to this investigation.” The force asked callers to use 101 and quote incident 106 of 18 October 2026. Neghat Khan, leader of Nottingham City Council, said the council was working with police to support the investigation. Khan said the council wanted those responsible brought to justice and described incidents of this nature as extremely rare. East Midlands Ambulance Service sent its support to the officer, his family and police colleagues in a social media post.
