JENNY MCCARTHY DESCRIBES CHANGE IN KATIE HOLMES AFTER WEDDING

Jenny McCarthy has said Katie Holmes appeared to change during her marriage to Tom Cruise, describing her as looking “like a deer in headlights”. McCarthy made the comments on an episode of her podcast. She said Holmes seemed like herself around the couple’s wedding but appeared different later in the marriage. “During the wedding part, she still seemed like Katie, but into the marriage it seemed there was a shift in her,” McCarthy said. McCarthy became close to Holmes and Cruise while she was dating Jim Carrey in the mid-2000s.

Holmes and Cruise began dating in 2005 and became engaged seven weeks after they met. Following their engagement in Paris, Holmes told W magazine: “He’s the man of my dreams... I’m just so happy, and I love celebrating our happiness.” They married in a Scientology ceremony at Odescalchi Castle in Bracciano, Italy, in November 2006. The castle dates from the 15th century. McCarthy said Holmes’s maid of honour gave a speech about their school days together.

Cruise chose Church of Scientology leader David Miscavige as his best man. McCarthy also recalled a 30-minute speech about Holmes and Cruise becoming “the most important couple in the world”. She said she sat beside Will Smith, JLo and Carrey during the speech. McCarthy said Holmes’s family appeared confused and that Holmes seemed to be “trying to smile her way through it”.
