DAEJON LOVE PLEADS NOT GUILTY TO WIRE FRAUD CHARGES

SAT 17 OCT 2026 FOOTBALL

Daejon Love has pleaded not guilty to charges arising from an alleged investment fraud involving women he met through dating apps. A defence lawyer entered the plea before Magistrate Judge Jolie A. Russo on Tuesday. US prosecutors accuse Love of posing as a San Francisco 49ers player while persuading women to send him money. The US Department of Justice says the alleged scheme involved at least 26 identified victims and about $1.3 million. Love and Taylor Jamie Chan were arrested at an airport in Boise, Idaho, in August.

The Justice Department says the alleged conduct began in February 2022 and continued until their arrest on 24 August. Prosecutors say Love posted football material online, wore 49ers clothing and presented himself as wealthy and knowledgeable about finance. He allegedly offered fictitious investments, including an expedited account promising unusually high returns within a short period. Prosecutors say Chan posed as Love’s financial adviser and joined him on three-way FaceTime calls to support the investment claims. Women sent cash or wired funds to Love and Chan, and Love allegedly blocked those who pressed him for answers.

The complaint says none of the women interviewed reported receiving investment returns or recovering their money. Prosecutors have brought wire fraud and conspiracy to commit wire fraud charges against Love and Chan. The alleged activity covered California, Oregon, Washington and Idaho, according to the Justice Department. Gwen Herndon, identified as an alleged victim, emailed Levi’s Stadium guest services in December 2025. Netflix has approved a documentary about the case.
