CANADA ENDS ENGLAND'S 41-MATCH UNBEATEN RUN

SAT 17 OCT 2026 W RUGBY

Canada beat England 24-21 in Toronto when replacement Shoshanah Seumanutafa scored a try in the 77th minute. The defeat ended the Red Roses' 41-match unbeaten run, which began after their loss to New Zealand in the November 2022 World Cup final. An attendance of 18,621 set a record for a standalone women's rugby fixture in North America. Canada recorded their first win over England since 2016 and their first on Canadian soil.

Savannah Bauder opened the scoring for Canada in the 15th minute while Zoe Harrison served a yellow-card suspension. Maddie Feaunati and Harrison then scored tries as England took a 14-5 half-time lead, with Canada's Laetitia Royer in the sin-bin. Alysha Corrigan scored for Canada after the break, and Sarah Bern's try restored England's nine-point advantage. DaLeaka Menin crossed in the 63rd minute to bring Canada within two points. Harrison kicked England's three conversions, while Sophie de Goede kicked two for Canada.

Canada had ended England's 39-match winning sequence with a 26-26 draw in Exeter in September. England head coach John Mitchell said: “I know this group has got more in them.” He said the team would stick to its processes after his first defeat since his appointment in late 2023. England and Canada will meet again next Saturday in Ottawa for the second match of their Rugby Rematch Tour.
